    I do not believe that it was brand new, as the plates box was opened, the bowls box was sealed, but the plates had definitely at least been taken out to be looked at, or maybe even used and then boxed up again, as no longer wanted. I am happy with them though as they are exactly what I wanted, and good delivery too
