Seller notes: “All blue tourmaline is quite rare, and high quality specimens are highly prized by collectors. ... “All blue tourmaline is quite rare, and high quality specimens are highly prized by collectors. Indicolite can range in color from light to deep blue. It is strongly pleochroic, meaning it shows different hues when viewed from different angles. Indicolite appears darker when viewed down the c-axis of the crystal and this must be taken into account when cutting. Poor cutting can result in a loss of transparency and brilliance, especially in darker specimens. Indicolite tourmaline is mainly found in small sizes and gems weighing over 1 carat are especially rare." ... "Most tourmaline is completely untreated. However, some stones may be heated to improve colour and clarity. Yellow, pink and red varieties of tourmaline may be irradiated to enhance colour, although irradiation is nearly impossible to detect and does not normally affect value. Heavily included rubellite and paraiba tourmaline may be clarity enhanced.”
