Linn (drums); Dee Lewis, Mae McKenna (background vocals). Recorded at PWL, London, England. Something of a surprise for long-time Donna Summer fans, 1989's ANOTHER PLACE AND TIME finds the disco diva in the company of Stock, Aitken, and Waterman, the powerhouse British dance-pop production/writing team of the mid-'80s. Although SAW's stranglehold on the top of the charts (Bananarama, Kylie Minogue, Rick Astley, etc.) was weakening by mid-1989, the writer/producers still had enough commercial mojo to give Summer her first platinum album and hit singles in years. The charting "This Time I Know It's for Real" and "Love's About to Change My Heart" are terrific slices of late '80s soul-pop. While this album, oddly, sounds more dated now than Summer's '70s disco classics, it's still a fine example of '80s dance pop, and a rare chance to hear SAW's music as interpreted by a disco diva.
