Published by John Murray, London, 1849. Second edition, the same year as the first. Bound in the original publisher's ribbed cloth, titled in gilt to the spine and upper board. Spine ends and corners bumped. Previous owner's armorial plate to the inner cover (George Montgomery Traherne). Ad endpapers. Frontispiece and illustrated title page, foxed. All plates present with tissue guards attached, though with foxing. Block generally in good order, though one page with a small corner tear. 420pp. The plates in this work are after drawings by Preziosi (Atabey p.159). One of the most charming books of travel ever written (DNB). Good/None. In 1833, Curzon (1810-73), embarked on a tour of Greece and Egypt, amassing a large collection of valuable manuscripts. He recounted his adventures in the present work. "It immediately gained popularity, running to six editions by 1881.”
