This book is rather different from Ann Hooper's illustrated manuals because it talks about the choices that the individual can make about his or her experiences of sex. The book's message is that you don't have to be channelled into whatever the current belief system puts out. If sex doesn't feel satisfactory, you can rethink it. There are no standards defining good sex wired into your head - it is purely what you make of it. The book helps readers understand where ideas about sex come from, get insight into their sexual behaviour and feelings, make an informed decision about whether they really want to make changes, make those changes with a programme that starts with small steps and leads on to attitude restructuring, enjoy what they have rather than focus on what they may lack and appreciate the creativity that goes into every sex act. The latter is important because the author urges that by bringing a more creative attitude to sexual relationships, previously intransigent difficulties can be tackled, allowing personal strengths and values to emerge from the all too common fog of stress and unhappiness. Working with new evolutionary theories about life and emotional survival Hooper uncovers a previously neglected area of sexual change. Amusing line drawings by Claudia Schenk illustrate the text.
