At Global Village Shop our wish is to combine our passion, and experience garnered from many years of working with local communities as well as trading with handicrafts and textiles around the world. By sourcing products directly from the manufacturer and responding to feedback from the customer we hope to be able to trade fairly at a competitive price.
Global Village Shop has developed our own ethical buying and trading policy listed below.
In addition, we visit all our suppliers and producers regularly, and engage in an ongoing dialogue with them to ensure the ethical standards we set ourselves are being met.
 
Global Village Shop:
• Buys most of its goods and materials from traditional small-scale producers, and craft based families and communities.
 
• When we buy from factories we ensure NO CHILDREN are employed.
 
• Pay suppliers a fair price, agreed through discussion and participation, which aims to improve their standard of living.
 
• Pays a minimum of 75% advance on an order and then immediately on completion to ensure that our suppliers never need to borrow from money lenders to complete our production.
 
• Develops long-term relationships with our suppliers and respects and promotes local designs and eco-friendly production methods.
 
• Undertakes product development with suppliers and producers, which ensures more money goes to the local economies.
 
• Promotes a safe and healthy working environment for producers.
 
• We work with Workers Cooperatives, Women’s enterprises, and Socio-economically disadvantaged groups, and are especially committed to ensuring women’s work is properly valued and their contribution is always paid for fairly.
 
• Ensures producers will be paid equally regardless of gender, race and caste.
 
• Respects traditional seasonal working patterns and holidays.
 
• LISTENS to what our producers have to say and tries to work through problems with them.
 
MOST CRUCIALLY, WE AIM TO REMAIN COMPETITIVE AND IN BUSINESS IN THESE TESTING ECONOMIC TIMES, AS WITHOUT THAT WE CAN’T HELP ANYONE!!
