Questo libro nasce dal viaggio che Melina Mulas ha intrapreso negli anni novanta tra Asia ed Europa, conducendolo con tenacia per quattordici anni, àlla ricerca dei maestri dell'antica tradizione spirituale tibetana: pur non volendo proporre alcuna visione religiosa, la fotografa milanese ha avvertito la necessità di documentare con metodo rigoroso una civiltà che si sta perdendo e che avrebbe ancora molto da dare all'uomo occidentale. Da questi incontri nascono i ritratti dei Lama del Tibet, immagini dove protagonista è lo sguardo: quello della fotografa, quello dei maestri e il nostro, irresistibilmente attratto dal magnetismo dei volti; un invito a saper guardare, per arrivare a una migliore comprensione tra le culture.
