Inhaltsangabe: Zusammenfassung: Der Begriff Backpacker oder dessen deutsches Synonym Rucksackreisender lasst bei vielen Menschen das Bild eines Abenteurers entstehen, der fernab der Zivilisation und des Massentourismus das besuchte Land in seiner vollstandigen Ursprunglichkeit kennen lernen moechte. Exotische Reiseziele wie Australien, Sudostasien oder Sudamerika werden mit diesem Reisenden in Verbindung gebracht. Auch auf dem fur diese Tourismusform eher untypischen deutschen Tourismusmarkt taucht der Begriff des Backpacking seit kurzem auf. In einigen deutschen Stadten eroeffnen sogenannte Backpacker Hostels und auch die Deutsche Zentrale fur Tourismus (DZT) stellt seit neuem Informationen fur die Backpacking Traveller in Deutschland auf ihrer Internetseite zur Verfugung (vgl. DZT o.J.). Setzt man sich eingehender mit dem Begriff des Backpackers vor dem Hintergrund des Tourismusraumes Deutschland auseinander, so muss festgestellt werden, dass weder von wissenschaftlicher Seite noch von Seiten der Tourismusindustrie detaillierte und tiefgreifende Informationen zu diesem Marktsegment zur Verfugung stehen. Deutsche Studien haben sich bisher lediglich mit den im Ausland reisenden Rucksacktouristen im Rahmen einer wissenschaftlichen Fragestellung auseinander gesetzt (vgl. PANNENBECKER 1981; BOETIG 1982; TUETING 1984; FOELLMER 1984; JUNG 1998). Welchen Einfluss die Ermittlung eines Backpackerprofils auf den Tourismusmarkt haben kann, zeigen die Studien aus dem australischen, neuseelandischen und sudostasiatischen Raum. Die dort ermittelten Untersuchungsergebnisse uber die soziodemographischen Merkmale und das Reiseverhalten der Rucksackreisenden konnten einen entscheidenden Beitrag zur Erstellung, Ausweitung und Verbesserung eines backpackerspezifischen Angebots leisten (vgl. u.a.
