"This is a short yet detail packed study of the Pioniertruppen of the Wehrmacht. All of this is superbly illustrated by Carlos Chagas and an excellent collection of period photographs, some of them in full color. In all, another excellent book on some of the less exciting, but very necessary components of warfare." -- Scott Van Aken, Modeling Madness "A fine survey... deserves a spot in any German specialty collection." -- The Midwest Book Review "This is a short yet detail packed study of the Pioniertruppen of the Wehrmacht. Synopsis
The German Army of World War II (1939-1945) collectively referred to its various engineer units as Pioniere - what would be called combat engineers in the West. This organization included Pioniertruppen (Pionier Troops), Bautruppen (Construction Troops), Eisenbahntruppen (Railway Troops), and Technische Truppen (Technical Troops). They were first and foremost assault troops, and construction workers second. They were tasked with overcoming manmade and natural obstacles, and in the attack they supported the infantry as specialist assault troops, attacking fortified positions with demolitions and flamethrowers. In the defence they constructed fortifications and shelters, erected obstacles, laid minefields, planted booby traps, cleared fields of fire, erected camouflage, and maintained supply routes. This book examines the recruitment and special training of a German Pionier. It also covers life in the field while on campaign and the of a Pionier role in supporting infantry assaults., The Pionier troops of the Wehrmacht were at the forefront of the blitzkrieg, storming through any obstacles that lay in their path. Not mere engineers, they were assault troops first and construction workers second. Armed with specialist equipment such as demolition charges and the terrifying flamethrower, they were called upon to breach fortifications, clear minefields and establish bridgeheads under fire. Together with original photographs and detailed artwork, this is a thorough examination of the life of a typical Pionier, following him through training and the offensive actions of the early war to the final, desperate efforts to slow the Allied advance. I've ordered from Rarewaves here in the US and the UK multiple times, and continue to do so. They always seem to have something I can't find anywhere else at all or for a reasonable price. When I purchase used items, they are as described, if not a grade better. Aways a quick turnaround after ordering, every item arrives promptly, professionally packaged. Many orders have free shipping, even for solitary item orders. I never needed a reason to communicate, as I've had no cause. Recommended.

Item arrived still wrapped as advertised but it must have taken some damage in transit since it arrived with a couple cracks and a small chunk of the frame of the case had completely detached. BUT the discs were still undamaged so I messaged the seller to tell them I was still going to keep the item I just wanted to let them know about the issue and they messaged me back and offered me 20% off the order to make up for the inconvenience. Great seller. Would purchase from them again.
