This is the second of two volumes for students preparing for the Institute of Legal Executives Part 1 examination. The law papers for Part 1 are taken over two years and this volume covers the subject for the second year - contract and consumer law, family law, employment law, wills, probate and consumer law and law of succession. The authors emphasize how the law works in its practical context, so that students should be able to relate their studies to their everyday work. Frequent reference is made to appropriate cases and the authors explain their significance to the subject. The book also contains statutory materials and examples of law reports. The authors use diagrams to illustrate complex points and include sample questions in the style of the Institute's examinations to indicate the type of problems that students may have to face. Guidance is given as to how these questions should be tackled in an exam situation so that obvious mistakes may be avoided. This fourth edition includes recent case developments relating to contracts of employment; compensation for unfair dismissal; disciplinary procedures; discrimination; duties of an employer in respect of health and safety within the workplace; and updated safety regulations.
