About this product

Product Information

This lavish book celebrates the patterns and designs of 1940s knitwear. Drawings and photographs from the original pattern magazines accompany modern colour photographs of the garments knitted up for today's wear. In addition it provides a history of wartime Britain and America, often using the actual words of the knitters and designers used by the fashion magazines. Over fifty patterns are featured, ranging from twinsets to hats with a variety of stitches. Illustrations show the garments as advertised in the 1940s and as reknitted for today's wear. American, British and continental needle sizes are included, as is American terminology and measurements are given in both imperial and metric. This classic pattern book is a treasury of patterns, adapted for today's yarns and needles, that will appeal to all handknitters and to anyone interested in the period. AUTHOR: Jane Waller has been making Millefiori and Raku ceramics since the seventies. After training at Oxfordshire Art College she went on to do a BA in Sculpture at Hornsey Art College and then an MAS in Ceramics at the Royal College of Art. She divides her time between writing and ceramics, and has written novels for children,as well as non-fiction works on ceramics, fashion and social history. 155 colour photos

The book is more like the history of WW2 and unfortunately the patterns several times lost the originally wel tailored shape. If you are interested in WW2 knitting history, it is a good read. If you want some good modern patterns from that era, go for something else. The book arrived promptly, in a good condition, for reasonable price. I highly recommend the seller.
