This work aims to address the needs of students in modular systems who may not have a background either in traditional literature or in linguistic theory. It uses the principles of linguistic analysis to investigate the use of language in literary (and non-literary) texts. The book shows how linguistic knowledge can enhance and enrich the analysis of texts. The authors borrow from traditional stylistics but focus primarily on the recurring linguistic patterns which are used by writers of poetry, fiction and drama. I bought this book of ‘10 Poems from Ireland’ from this company as I could not find it anywhere else, and I wanted to give it to my husband, who has Irish roots, instead of a card on Fathers’ Day. On opening the packet it came in, I discovered that it was stamped throughout ‘Withdrawn from stock - Dublin City Public Libraries’. I would still have bought it had I known as it is a lovely little collection. Otherwise it arrive quickly but a fuller description would have been welcomed.
