"Riveting...Reminiscent of The Kite Runner and My Brilliant Friend , The Lion Women of Tehran is a mesmerizing tale featuring endearing characters who will linger in readers' hearts." -- BookPage, "In The Lion Women of Tehran, Marjan Kamali brings to life the beauty and tragedy of Iran in the 1960s. From the delicious scent of spices simmering, to the colors of the bazaar, to the snowflakes landing on a certain character's hair, this story came brilliantly alive to me from the very first page. Courage, friendship, loyalty, hardship, love--this novel has everything." --Mary Beth Keane, New York Times bestselling author of Ask Again, Yes, "An evocative read and a powerful portrait of friendship, feminism, and political activism." --People, "More than a tale of friendship or a coming-of-age story, it's a beautifully crafted and subtle exploration of love, family, friendship, ambition, betrayal and redemption in a socio-political powder keg...This finely written novel emphasizes the human experience in the face of turmoil." -- Bookreporter

    Synopsis
NATIONAL BESTSELLER An " evocative read and a powerful portrait of friendship, feminism, and political activism" ( People ) set against three transformative decades in Tehran, Iran--from nationally bestselling author Marjan Kamali. In 1950s Tehran, seven-year-old Ellie lives in grand comfort until the untimely death of her father, forcing Ellie and her mother to move to a tiny home downtown. Lonely and bearing the brunt of her mother's endless grievances, Ellie dreams for a friend to alleviate her isolation. Luckily, on the first day of school, she meets Homa, a kind girl with a brave and irrepressible spirit. Together, the two girls play games, learn to cook in the stone kitchen of Homa's warm home, wander through the colorful stalls of the Grand Bazaar, and share their ambitions of becoming "lion women." But their happiness is disrupted when Ellie and her mother are afforded the opportunity to return to their previous bourgeois life. Now a popular student at the best girls' high school in Iran, Ellie's memories of Homa begin to fade. Years later, however, her sudden reappearance in Ellie's privileged world alters the course of both of their lives. Together, the two young women come of age and pursue their own goals for meaningful futures. But as the political turmoil in Iran builds to a breaking point, one earth-shattering betrayal will have enormous consequences. Received the DVD set as listed, and the used discs are in great shape! I doubt I'll be shopping for new discs much now, with sellers like this one and another I recently bought from, why buy new when the used discs work perfectly? Great price too. Set was mailed promptly, in a padded mailer with tracking. Good seller, will shop again.

Book is exactly as described and even better condition. Looks like brand new. Arrived 4 days before promised date, well packaged and perfectly safe. I shopped around and this was, by far, the best price. I highly recommend not only this hilarious book, but also this Ebay seller.

The package was shipped here fast, and the CDs were in good condition, but the case got stuck to the pamphlet inside. The seller did tell the truth in saying it was acceptable as was described, and he chose a good price for this, as it is 2 CDs that are almost 15 years old.
