The stapler features the ability to switch from manual to automatic. My husband cannot get out of the habit of picking it up and using it like an old-fashioned squeeze stapler. I, OTOH, love the automatic feature. Our old one is over 15 years-old when the battery cover broke as I was changing the batteries. I bought this one thinking I would use it instead. However, only the automatic feature worked. For me it wasn't a problem as I just needed the cover and can use my old one.
