Seller notes: “A nice English antique pewter tankard measure , dating to the Victorian period and the tankard is ... “A nice English antique pewter tankard measure , dating to the Victorian period and the tankard is marked with what is believed to be the the date 78 ( 1878 ) although it may just be the tankards number in line , it bears the crown VR mark and the number 8, Imperial pint, measure and is initialled with what I believe the letters to read J.D.F.I. ( although they may not be the correct interpretation ) J.D.F.I. most likely being the initials of the owner of the tankard or landlord and to the inside bottom of the tankard is the stamped number 4 . All the details and information the tankard bears makes it a most interesting item of social history and a superb measure for collectors Measures ; ( 13cm ) 5.1/8" inches high The tankard is in overall very nice condition , just showing some dents and bumps but no splits or holes and only being commensurate with age and many, many, many years of use”
