The item is new but has a defect due to bad termination under fabrication. Fortunately such condition doesn’t compromise its performance at switching between railway paths for the “damaged” side of rail never comes in contact with wheel flanges. As shown in attached photos, the defect is due to lack of plastic mixture when it was poured. These are pieces Lego does not make and is sad to note how their makers do not take enough care of what they’re doing. Anyway, this thing works for me but…
