There is a ground aspheric element in front and floating elements optimize the image clarity. All zoom and focus functions are internal, with no external movement during operation. In the barrel, the front and rear groups pump in and out. The range of focal lengths on this lens is covered with a scale of four notches. These are marked 35mm, 28mm, 24mm, and 20mm. The extension tubes provide close-ups of up to 0.66x at 20mm and up to 0.92x at 35mm. It offers a close focus of 1.6 feet from the image plane and a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:11.11.To ensure photo clarity and sharpness, the f/2 lens has a filter diameter of 72mm and f/2.8L to f/32 aperture. The Canon EF 20-35mm lens has a USM, which stands for Ultra Sonic Motor. It's a small motor that Canon builds into the camera body, allowing it to autofocus quicker than standard model cameras. The diaphragm on these Canon lenses has six blades and stops down to f/22. The size of the lens is 3.1 inches in diameter by 3.5 inches in length. This does not change when the unit is focused or zoomed. Lens in very good shape for being 20 years old! This was the wide zoom with the introduction of the EF series during the last millennium but have new life breathed into them with the EF - EOS Adapters. These lens is a bit soft on my Canon 77D, but is awesome on my mirrorless camera, paired my R10 it has very fast autofocus and the images are sharp! I know the R10 recognizes the lens, but doesn't have the profile in it to correct, I will have to see if Lightroom does. See Ken Rockwell's page.
