Following a major exhibition in Leuven further studies explored the influences and sometimes controversial aspects of Bouts. This publication is the result of that study. Articles deal with the painter's life and work; his artistic relations with Northern and Southern Netherlandish paintings. Also much is attention is devoted to the intellectual iconography of Bouts work and his stylistic influences on European paintings This book provides an insight into the present state of Bouts study but more importantly open avenues for further research.
