Having just returned from Safari in Africa I would suggest it’s use would be more practical, used as a noisemaker. Rhino have poor eyesight but excellent hearing. This might be an aid that a walking guide might use. Rhinos would not aggressively storm towards a percussive sound. Quite the opposite, if they heard human activity and sensed danger, rhinos would move away.
