Edition Description
Supplement,Revised edition
Synopsis
This standard text, now in its fifth edition, offers clear explanations and insightful assessments of the wide range of criminology theories, all presented within their historical context. It includes the traditional, classical, and positivist schools, recent biological and psychological theories, and mainstream sociological theories, as well as critical, developmental, and integrated theories. Also covered are gender-based theories, including feminist criminology and theories related to masculinity, as well as "contemporary classical" theories such as deterrence, routine activities, and rational choice., Theoretical Criminology, the standard text in its field, has been extensively revised and completely updated. The fifth edition offers new sections on causation in scientific theories, Sampson's theory of collective efficacy, and Anderson's "code of the street." A new chapter on contemporary classicism includes sections on deterrence theory and research, routine activities theory, and rational choice theory. Also included is a new chapter that examines the role of gender in criminology theories, covering feminist criminology and theories of masculinity and crime. Each theory is presented accurately and comprehensively within its historical context. Relevant empirical research is reviewed and assessed, and research issues related to theory testing are also discussed. Lively and engaging, this new edition is designed to appeal to students at all levels. Offering the most precise, clear, and thorough presentation of criminology theories, Theoretical Criminology retains its premier position in the field of criminology.

The book is in terrible condition. It had marks on every page- writing, highlighting, etc. it is not “used”, it is”terribly used”. Reading it will not be pleasant. I would not have sold it it, but thrown it away.
