Notes
By the age of 22 Riley Puckett of Atlanta, Georgia, was described as a 'blind banjoist ready for the big doings'. A year later a reporter stated that no description of a fiddlers' convention would be complete without a reference to Riley Puckett, mentioning that Riley's 'flying fingers' were able to pick a rhythmic accompaniment no matter what the number or the key of the piece might be. This collection reveals a fine instrumentalist and decent vocalist who was an essential member of many early 'old-timey' groups. His influence was to permeate much traditional music and is still felt today. Riley Puckett proved the people wanted to hear singing, and if he didn't sing on the records, why they didn't sell much - so we found that out right quick Clayton McMichen. Riley' He was hard to play with ' Lowe Stokes
