As he reaches adulthood he worked as an apprentice shipwright on the docks. Later, after his national service, he went to sea as a ship's carpenter. This book is jam-packed with real life incidents, on the docks, at sea, and later working at Cammell Lairds and as a carpenter helping to construct major Liverpool buildings. Jack thought for many years of writing this book. At last he has fulfilled his ambition and he hopes many readers can relate to his story. He tells this story with humour but, at times, there is sadness. Throughout, the history of our great city of Liverpool shines through.
