Max von Eyth (1836-1906) war ein deutscher Ingenieur und Schriftsteller. Auf vielen Reisen und langjahrigen Auslandsaufenthalten, u. a. nach AEgypten und in die USA, warb er fur die Einfuhrung von dampfmaschinengetriebenen Pflugen in der Landwirtschaft. Eyth war auch bei der Errichtung der Seilschifffahrt auf dem Rhein massgeblich beteiligt. In der Zeit des Amerikanischen Burgerkriegs reiste er nach AEgypten. Der Nilstaat bemuhte sich zu dieser Zeit, Hauptproduzent von Baumwolle fur Europa zu werden. Drei Jahre war Eyth Chefingenieur des agyptischen Prinzen Said Halim Pascha. Die Erlebnisse dieser Zeit beschrieb er in seinem Werk Hinter Pflug und Schraubstock.
