Diese Aussage von Euripides zeugt davon, dass schon die alten Griechen der Ansicht waren, dass Sichtbarkeit die Evidenz fur die Existenz des Unsichtbaren ist. Sie ist auch ein Indikator dafur, dass das Phanomen der Unsichtbarkeit seit jeher eine grosse Faszination auf die Menschen ausubte. Der Glaube an Damonen, Geister und Engel, stets anwesende, aber nicht sichtbare Wesen, durchwanderte die Geschichte wie es Kriege, Krankheiten und beruhmte Koenigshauser taten. Unsichtbarkeiten sind Bestandteil jahrhundertealter sowie auch der neusten Medien: die Tarnkappe aus den Nibelungen, die Nebel von Avalon, der Herr der Ringe, Geister und Maschinen, die Menschen und Dinge unsichtbar machen. Doch Unsichtbarkeiten begegnen uns in den Medien nicht nur in Form von Geistern oder Menschen, die durch bestimmte Attribute unsichtbar werden. Es gibt viele verschiedene Arten und Facetten der Unsichtbarkeit. Der Film als Medium, dessen Hauptausrichtungspunkt die visuelle Wahrnehmung ist, spielt standig mit Sichtbarkeiten und Unsichtbarkeiten. Bei den im Folgenden besprochenen Filmen spielen Unsichtbarkeiten eine dominierende Rolle und sind groesstenteils mit psychologischen Faktoren verknupft. Handelt es sich um ein Nicht-sehen-koennen oder um ein Nicht-sehen-wollen? Welche Denkmuster behindern die Wahrnehmung? Eine Besonderheit von The Sixth Sense , The Village und Cube ist, dass der Zuschauer den Unsichtbarkeiten ebenso ausgeliefert ist wie die Protagonisten. Es ist langst nicht mehr ublich im Film die traditionelle Montageform einzusetzen, die dem Zuschauer eine allwissende Position ermoeglicht.
