Um einer ahistorischen Sicht vorzubeugen werden zunachst die Anfange der US-Erdoelpolitik im Nahen Osten und die amerikanische Einflussnahme in der Region nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg dargestellt. Es folgt der Blick auf aktuelle Positionen in der Energie- und Aussenpolitik der Regierung unter US-Prasident George W. Bush. Der Schwerpunkt im letzten Teil stellt die Auseinandersetzung mit Genese des im Jahr 2003 entfesselten Golfkriegs, seiner zugrunde liegenden Motive und die sich aus ihm ergebenden Konsequenzen dar.
