Besonderes Augenmerk lege ich dabei auf die Hauptperson der Mary oder Moll Hackabout. Wie und mit welcher Intension hat Hogarth sie in seinem Zyklus dargestellt und was hat sie fur eine Wirkung fur den Betrachter? Ich werde versuchen, einzelne Charaktermerkmale des Madchens aufzuzeigen, um sie in den Gesamtzusammenhang setzen, um die lehrende Funktion des Werkes zu verdeutlichen. Zunachst gebe ich eine kurze Einfuhrung in die Kunst und Gesellschaft in England zu Hogarths Zeit. Darauf folgt eine ausfuhrliche Beschreibung und Erklarung des Werkes. Anschliessend gehe ich auf die Darstellung der Hauptperson ein und fasse diese am Ende nochmals zusammen.
