Zunachst werden Hayeks Beweggrunde fur sein Freiheitsverstandnis erlautert, um anschliessend untersuchen zu koennen, ob das bedingungslose Grundeinkommen trotz Hayeks negativem Freiheitsverstandnis ermoeglicht werden kann. Die Idee eines Grundeinkommens sei kein neues Phanomen, erste UEberlegungen seien bis ins 16. Jahrhundert zuruckzuverfolgen. Der Gedanke sei keiner speziellen Denkrichtung zu zuordnen, dennoch koenne es laut Timo Reuter Befurworter den Liberalismus stutzen. Denn ein bedingungsloses und existenzsicherndes Grundeinkommen koennte vor allem eines leisten: Es koennte die Freiheit der Menschen entscheidend vergroessern. So mag der Schutz der Freiheit Kern liberaler Theorien seien, dennoch ist der Liberalismus gepragt von verschiedenen Stroemungen, daher gebe es kein einheitliches Freiheitsverstandnis. Nach dem oesterreichischen liberalen OEkonomen und Wirtschaftsnobelpreistrager Friedrich August von Hayek bedeute Freiheit auch zu hungern. Er fordert, dass wir verstehen mussten dass wir frei und zugleich elend sein koennen .
