A good and interesting book. There is a different contributor to each chapter. It covers ground from Anglo Saxon to Modern times. It is very comprehensive, but as such, can only very briefly touch on a particular subject. One could benefit, in acquiring a background, although not a detailed one on any particular subject from this book. It is really a historical account of English Literature. Good for brief reference, or perhaps as a companion to other English Literature books. Good value.
