The follow-on book to Snail Trail, Snails Don't Burp! sees detectives-in-the-making, Amy and Charlie set off on another adventure. When an American film producer wants to make a film about their amazing discovery high up on Zig Zag Common, the girls get other ideas. Believing Old McSlithers, the giant African land snail they'd found, might be in danger, they refuse to sign the film contract. They plan to hide the snail, but just where do you hide a snail the size of a four-storey building? When new people arrive in the street and start acting weird, the girls grow suspicious. Then mysterious glitter is found scattered all around the village. It appears to have come from nowhere. The plot thickens. There are boys misbehaving, a school trip to a monastery and a massive falling-out between friends. When things can't get any worse, Old McSlithers falls desperately ill. The Americans fly in to help, but it's down to the girls to find the culprit and save the life of the snail. The message in Snails Don't Burp! is a strong one: eat the right kind of food and you'll be fine; eat things you're not supposed to and things will go wrong. A funny and exciting read with a bit of (tasteful) bottom humour.
