I was buying this on the assumption I was getting the genuine American lock but this was not it. I found out after doing some research. This has the masterlock core inside, and is not made from steel. I'm a picker and opened this surprisingly easy, I personally would not use this lock to protect my belongings in a lets say, a gym locker.
