I haven't tried logs outside the recommended sizes yet, I imagine at a certain size it could get stuck. But then, you're chancing it! It's so easy for logs up to about 250mm diameter. Avoids the problems of effort and trying to balance awkward shape logs whilst trying to split with an axe or ramrod type splitter. I assembled the splitter this morning and tried it for the first time with wedge shaped kiln dried softwood logs, typical of what I get delivered and some are too big for my small stove. First attempt was disappointing as the wedge entered 1/4” and I couldn’t get any more pressure on it. After lunch I adjusted the height of the foot pedal by two turns and tried again. It worked very well, so I now have smaller logs and kindling.
