The vast, wide open glass is perfectly clear, exhibiting no marks of any kind, with just a couple of motes of dust visible when the lens is held up to daylight. There is obviously absolutely no sign of any oil or fungus. The barrel is in similarly stunning condition, with no marks to that classic black finish save for a few very light scratches. The quality if this lens is obvious as soon as you pick it up, while in use it feels bullishly confident and frankly belies the passage of the years. The focus and aperture rings move as smoothly and serenely as you would hope from a Nikon lens, while the built in hood pulls out, locks into position and retracts easily and without fuss. The optic bears a gorgeous multi coloured NIC multicoating which shimmers in the light.”
