A tip passed on to me at the post office counter. (I use the envelopes to post out magazines) if there is excess room at the sides,top or bottom of the plastic envelope after inserting the magazine/papers. Fold the loose side,top or bottom back onto the envelope and sellotape down. This ensures that this size envelope will fit the letterbox template that is used at the post office and depending on weight can be posted as second class large letter.
