ATV: Quad Power Racing, released two years after its PlayStation parent, offers All Terrain Vehicle fans a chance to race on ten tracks ranging from paved roads to dirt, snow, and mud covered venues. Although the box stipulates head-to-head competition, there is no multiplayer mode available. Players try to overtake seven opponents in each race to finish in at least first, second, or third position, depending on the stage. Two game modes are available: arcade, which provides the practice element, and Challenge, the core mode with Stock, Pro, and Open events.<br><br>Vehicles and tracks become available in linear fashion in Challenge mode only, with a total of nine ATVs rated by speed, turbo, traction, and air capability unlocked as races are completed. Track availability is also linear, with the Stock and Pro events consisting of eight races each, followed by the Open Challenge. The goal is to finish in the top three, top two, and first, respectively, and the length of race (two to five laps) progresses concurrently with the stage. On-track power-ups provide super speed, more air, better traction, and turbo boosts.<br><br>Two camera angles provide perspectives from behind the ATV, and color-coded navigation arrows (green, yellow, and red) indicate upcoming on-track curves and degrees of difficulty. Basic ATV attributes feature speed, suspension, tires, and acceleration power, and a five-symbol password is provided at the successful completion of each race through every stage, allowing you to continue progress in a later session.
