NotesDoug Prescott Band Doug has been crafting his songwriting skills since the late 60's. Many bands and recordings later, 2011 saw the release of his 2nd solo effort, The Journey & The Deep Blue Sea. This release has met with widespread critical acclaim and is getting airplay throughout the U.S. and Internationally. Doug was able to bring together a diverse and highly skilled group of musicians and singers for this release, from Craig Fuller on background vocals (Pure Prairie League, Little Feat) to Will McFarlane on guitar (Bonnie Raitt), and from Martin Parker on drums (Vince Gill, Don Williams and many more) and Allyn Love on pedal steel guitar (Steve Wariner, Patty Lovelace and others) to Tony Bowman on keys (Edgar Winter) and engineering/co-production. The 10 songs on this release are all over the map stylistically, yet form a cohesive Blues/Alt-Country/Americana blend, with truth and the heart at the core. One of the common threads throughout Doug's recordings have been his musical connection with Tommy Hartley, a guitar virtuoso who permeates the music. Tommy Hartley Tommy has been at the core of the Triangle music scene for decades. Perhaps best known for his tribute band Slowhand - a Tribute to Eric Clapton, this native of Lenoir, North Carolina has been involved with many bands throughout the years, with time in Nashville as well as on many recordings, Tommy always lends an expert guitar hand to whatever the project in which he is involved. He has a great voice and contributed background vocals to this new release in addition to a good measure of fine guitar work. His credits include co-production, guitar and vocals for Nancy Middleton's two CDs. Tommy has worked with Sutter's Gold Streak, Badge, The Silverliners, Rockinghorse, Out 'n the Cold, The Five Star Band, Sherman and the Blazers, The Sheetrockers, The What IV?, Ron Davis Band, Blue Coyote and many others. He has shared the stage with such rock luminaries as Greg Allman and Ann Wilson. Tommy brings his years of experience to each and every endeavor he undertakes. He and Doug have been playing music together for over 16 years and he is an integral part of Doug's "sound." Ken Johnson Ken hails from New Jersey, but has been playing music here in the Triangle since the early 90's. He's been a member of several popular local bands including, Mainstreet (along with Doug '97 ~ '99), Spoonful of Soul, & DaMuthas. He's also worked with Katharine Whalen (of Squirrel Nut Zippers fame) in her band called "Lucky" from 2008 to 2010 playing guitar & ukulele. At the present time Ken is playing Bass in "Kind Strangers" (Jeff Whatley singer songwriter), and most recently has joined up with Doug again after many years to play guitar & bass. Andy Cheek Andy Cheek is the classic, consummate rock drummer. His early bands included Joe Bell and the Fabulous Pomonas and Cross Wind. His style and solid rhythms are the product of his faithful admiration of the band Little Feat and drummer Richie Hayward. That combined with influences ranging from the Beatles and Byrds to Jimi Hendrix and later Americana groups, he's become highly sought-after in the Carolina rock and roll musical community.
