NotesThe Buckarettes formed in 1998, when long-time friends and often-time musical collaborators Katie Gill (vocal/guitar/songwriter) and Debra Jean Parker Harris (vocal) got together to play some cowgirl music for an elementary school. The experience was so much fun that the two decided to take the idea further. Augé Hays (vocal/dobro/lapsteel/pedalsteel/harmonica) was brought on the buckboard (Augé has realized his lifelong dream of being the only man in an all-girl band). Then Susan Hyde Holmes (upright bass/baritone guitar/harmony vocals) was recruited. Susan, who is also known for her work with folk icons Bill & Bonnie Hearne (Back Porch Records), is the unofficial wardrobe wrangler for the Buckarettes. The Buckarettes' performances are known for wistful cowgirl harmonies enhanced by what one reporter calls 'manly dobro', swingin' hips, spunky rhythms, deft musicianship, and lots of soulful twang. The Buckarettes' long-awaited self-titled CD (Buckin' A! Records) features fourteen great tunes with guest musicians Bill & Bonnie Hearne, guitar legend Frank Reckard (Emmylou Harris, Rodney Crowell), and jazz drummer Andrew Pohling.
