NotesWith the entire Blue Series spread out before him, Spooky has sorted sifted chopped and recombined this music into a shining new work that teases out the lines between jazz and hip hop, then obliterates those lines. The result is a no-hold's barred re-envisioning of some of the most visionary jazz of the 21st century. From the subtly funky drumming of Hamid Drake to the unshakeable basslines of William Parker, the intense lyricism of Matthew Shipp's piano, to the hefty beats of El-P, nothing is off limits. The CD version includes a special bonus disc with an 80-minut continuous mix of Blue Series tracks masterminded by DJ Spooky.
