Orson Welles' directorial debut chronicles the fictional life of Charles Foster Kane, a humble and rather timid young boy who worked his way up through the ranks to become a media baron, only to discover that life at the top was isolating and lonely. More importantly, the film makes use of some of the most startling camera angles, long takes and intricate frame compositions ever seen. Some terrific performances from Joseph Cotten, the striking Agnes Moorehead and Welles himself help turn this into a true classic. The script, by Welles and Herman J Mankiewicz, was incredibly the only element of the movie to win an Oscar.
