About this product

Product Information

Civilization: Call to Power is the third game in the successful Civilization series. Players take on up to seven other cultures in a race to either brutally dominate the world through war or by building an X-lab and successfully cloning creatures who are half human and half alien.

Unlike earlier games of Civilization, Civilization: Call to Power starts right over with totally new Wonders, new government types, mostly new units, and all new graphics. Each unit has its own distinct sound and acknowledges orders with a distinct voice.

The game goes through 5 distinct ages: Ancient, Renaissance, Modern, Genetic and Diamond. Unlike other Civilization games, players no longer have a palace or throne room to show their progress. Instead, their civilization builds from 3-5 monuments to show the achievements of each age.

Another area of difference is with the special goods that can occur on certain tiles. Unlike in earlier Civilization games, these do not add to resources in the cities, but instead are strictly relegated to being trade goods. Also, the caravan is no longer a visible unit on the map, but instead is the possibility of creating a trade route between your cities or with the cities of another nation. These can also be pirated away, breaking the trade route and destroying a caravan.

Also used in the game are unconventional warfare units, which can cause fear or use other attacks on enemy cities. These include the slaver, who can make slaves out of citizens of another city, the abolitionist, who frees slaves in other cities and increases the inhabitants of the players own cities, a cleric, who can convert a city to his religion, and get tithes of gold from the inhabitants each turn. There are other units called "terror units" that have the capability to infect cities with nano viruses or sue cities, forcing a halt to their production with an injunction.

Incidentally, the information on the game box is wrong. Though it says the game needs 48 MB to run, the actual minimum system for the game is a little over 65 MB, or 69 MB if players do not have Virtual Memory turned on.
