The club scene in the '70s was one of uninhibited artistic freedom, a percolating hotbed of new talent, new music, new styles, and new ways of thinking, and its story unfolds here in archive footage and interviews with key people on the scene. These include Larry Levan, house DJ at the Paradise Garage whose influence is felt to this day, and who at the time helped make the Garage the center of New York nightlife--young, black, gay nightlife in particular. Then there's Danny Mancuso, an orphan who moved to New York as a teenager and single-handedly changed the face of the scene with his Loft parties. Other personalities featured include the "Godfather of House," Frankie Knuckles; DJ and producer extraordinaire John "Jellybean" Benitez; pop artist Keith Haring; and many others. The influential disco era shown here is palpably something that was utterly exciting, original, and inspirational.
