NotesA classically trained pianist from the age of four, Anela Lauren branched out into jazz in college and took up the harp in 1993. After training in Washington, D.C. and Moloka'i, HI, Anela began to play regularly at festivals and events with a variety of performers. Her first CD, Mele from the Harp, was released in early 2008. It is all instrumental, mostly solo harp with accompaniment on several tracks from Cindy Combs, the 'slack-key lady', and Joe Lohmeier on cello. The songs are traditional and contemporary Hawaiian melodies, which especially on the harp will soothe the mind and heart, and create a peaceful atmosphere. 'While listening to this CD, it would not be difficult to close your eyes and imagine the surf coming ashore while colorful birds dance in the mist of a nearby waterfall. The mood of this CD is absolutely magical - definitely great for relaxing or entertaining.' - Elizabeth 'Betsy' Paine, Folk Harp Journal.
