The Leipzig Cantor did not content himself with creating sets of amiable dances - he revived the genre in his own manner, accenting the contrasts, refining the orchestration and introducing the sorts of contrapuntal elements that made the composer famous. Two centuries later, these joyous works are considered an indispensable treasure of the Baroque. This SACD reissue from Alia Vox is a follow up to the label's recently released set of the Brandenburg Concertos. The multi-channel remastering enables US to fully enjoy the hearty, colorful and cheerful performances of Le Concert des Nations and Jordi Savall.
