NotesThe Mad Maggies are back on the high seas with "Shake Those Bones" their follow up album to "Skull & Magpies". The tunes are original and stylistically varied ranging from foot-tapping swing to shades of ska to Celtic folk and more. But fear not. The music is, refreshingly not your Disney pirate fare nor rehashed traditional material. Skullduggery - jazzy Klezmer feel Shake Those Bones - philosophical swing La Chanson de Jean - love & yearning, sung in French Cold Hearts Abound - craven reprobates & betrayal The Cards On the Table - cumbia-esque with unabashed tuba & reverb-drenched accordion Dead Men Don't Need Gold - fatalistic edge & timpani finale, a movie score? Teach Tábhairne Mhaillí Ní Dhuibh - sing along drinking song sung in Irish! Drunken Sailor's Hornpipe - based on the well-known hornpipe but with tuba & bass clarinet, and... Making Way - upbeat, with shades of ska Aye Lassie - cajunesque dance groove Hidden track: Drunken Sailor's Hornpipe - Wally's Dub Mags asked sound engineer, Wally Sound to let his dub spirit fly free which he did, to great effectThey are back to the high seas with 'Shake Those Bones', their follow up album to 'Skull and Magpies'. Ten new danceable tunes (plus a bonus track) inspired by rogues, reprobates, romance and rum. There's shades of ska, celtic flavors, a cumbia-esque song, a cajun-esque song, a song in French, a song in Irish and more. The beautiful album artwork is by fine artist and illustrator, Dale Horstman (who also did the artwork on 'Skull & Magpies'.) He captured the feel perfectly! We recorded at Wally Sound in Oakland, once again to 2 inch analog tape, then mixed down to digital. Wally engineered mixed and mastered. Wally gives good sound! Johny Blood: tuba Adrian Gormley: alto & tenor sax, bass clarinet Ian Luke: drums, percussion Maggie Martin: accordion, vocals Rhian Robinson: whistle, clarinet TIm Sarter: bass Gary 'GDub' Wium: guitars.
