Tim Burton's gore-splashed Gothic take on Stephen Sondheim's musical stars Johnny Depp in the title role. He was once an innocent barber, Benjamin Barker, happily married to Lucy with a daughter, Johanna. But evil Judge Turpin coveted Lucy, had Barker deported and had his wicked way with Lucy who, in despair, killed herself. Barker returns, ravaged by time and unrecognisable, seeking vengeance, and sets up as a barber offering a murderously close shave. Joining him in his endeavours is Mrs Lovett, who runs the pie shop beneath his salon and uses his victims to make lip-smacking pies (as well as being in love with him).
