Born in 1890, he was known throughout his life as a generous, friendly and warm character, admired far beyond the boundaries of his native Yorkshire. Through fresh research and several previously unpublished photographs, the life and career of this cheerful and charismatic Yorkshireman are both re-traced. From the early years in Wombwell, his entry into the county ranks in 1911 and his development into a high class all-rounder in the years following World War I, Test honours and his sad and untimely demise in the spring of 1928 are all covered in 'The Laughing Cricketer of Wombwell'.
