NotesIn 1971, Melvin Van Peebles invented a new film genre with "Sweet Sweet back's Baadasssss Song." with the help of the Black Panthers, word of it spread, bringing Hollywood to "the Hood." Van Peebles' son Mario recently released a documentary about the film titled "Baadasssss!" featuring interviews with Panther chief of staff David Hillard and others. This CD (organized by Hillard and Huey Newton's widow) is a tribute and companion to the documentary, featuring the original title track for the documentary "Getting the Man's Foot Outta Ya Ass," vintage speeches by Panther founder Huey Newton, music by African singer Thomas Mapfumo, new raps and hip hop beats by the Black Panther Fugitives.
