NotesJust as you melt into the prohibition-era vocals and the soft erratic beats of the lush cinematic 'Ice Capade', Twilight Sleep stops your daydreaming with 'The Other One', a slamming tune that's impossible to sit down to. They give you a beautiful melody and take it away with sonic destruction and distortion... The tension illustrative of what's at the core of Twilight Sleep. The duo demonstrate an awareness of structure while simultaneously pushing the rules to invent a soundscape not quite like what you've heard before. With enough inventive sounds to keep any music geek sufficiently puzzled, enough melody to break your heart, and enough guts to keep a dancefloor sweaty, Twilight Sleep's diverse sound is both delicate and dirty. Raj approaches his production with the detailed precision of a Swiss watch maker and the originality of a mad scientist... a perfect marriage to Tracy's unforgetable melodies and idiosyncratic vocal style. They pull all the stops with warped Hitchcock-esque strings, weeping moog, arpeggiated synths, recordings from a machine shop turned into beat loops, and rock-inspired fretless bass lines, to mention a few. This is not background music. You can't ignore it. Sometimes nearly child-like in raw emotion, perfectly imperfect, and then relentlessly powerful, their music will make you painfully nostalgic for places you've never been but can't get out of your head.
