Protecting your password and account information

Take the following steps to protect your password and account.

Password protection:

  • Create a different password for each online account you have, including each account on eBay. Having different passwords for each site you use makes it harder for others to gain access to your accounts.

  • Change your password often—at least every 30 to 60 days. Changing your password regularly helps limit unauthorized access.

  • If you believe that someone has obtained your password, change it immediately.

  • Don't share your password with others.

  • Don't store your password in an obvious location, such as on your computer or on a piece of paper.

Account protection:

  • Before entering your eBay password, make sure you're signing into a genuine eBay website. When in doubt, type 'eBay' into your browser and sign in from the eBay home page.
