Classified Ads Policy

Classified Ad listings give sellers a way to list items, services and property for sale to generate multiple leads or potential buyers in specific categories.

For standard Classified Ad listings, contact information is allowed in a listing for both customer support purposes and solicitation of leads.

Note: Contact information is only permitted in other types of eBay listings (auction-format, fixed price, etc.) for customer support purposes.

The Examples section below shows examples of the types of listings or listing methods that specifically are not permitted in Classified Ad listings. These examples are designed to provide guidance when listing in a Classified Ad listings category, and should not be viewed as an exhaustive list

Breaches of eBay policies, including this policy, may result in a range of actions, including:

  • Listing cancellation

  • Forfeit of eBay fees on cancelled listings

  • Limits on account privileges

  • Loss of PowerSeller status

  • Account suspension

The following are examples of listings or listing methods specifically not permitted in Classified Ad listings:

  • Listing multiple ads for an identical item, service, or property. Sellers must list one Classified Ad for the same item, service, or property.

  • Listing multiple items, properties or specific services in one Classified Ad is not permitted, unless the items, services, or properties are being sold as a bundle or lot, or as a multiple quantity listing.

  • Advertising a physical good or tangible item that has already sold or a service that is no longer available. Listings should be removed as soon as the item or service is no longer available.

  • Misrepresenting the “Advertised Price” of an item, service or property. The Advertised Price of the item, service or property should be consistent with information provided in the item description of the listing. Sellers should accurately represent the price of the item for sale.

  • Using premium or value-adding phone numbers as contact information is not permitted. Although sellers are permitted to include contact information within a Classified Ad, using a phone number that charges callers a fee to be paid to the seller for dialling is not permitted.

  • Classified Ad listings must comply with all existing eBay Marketplace policies including eBay's Listing Practices policies (including but not limited to Accepted Payments, Keyword Spam, Miscategorisation and No Item policies) Prohibited and Restricted Items Policy, and rules pertaining to Intellectual Property (How eBay Protects Intellectual Property (VeRO)).

In addition to the above, the following are examples of listings or listing methods specifically not permitted in the Motors Classified Ad categories

    • Advertising Leasing, Financing and Rental offers that are not provided as an additional service with the sale of a vehicle is not permitted. Sellers are not permitted to post a Classified Ad listing for vehicle leasing, financing and rental offers alone, unless these services are listed in the Services category.

    • Misrepresenting the “Advertised Price” of the vehicle is not permitted. The “Advertised Price” of the listing should reflect the final price of the vehicle or service, including fees such as VAT ((excluding business sellers listing commercial vehicle classifieds), duty or other taxes, the price of add-ons, etc

    • Advertising multiple vehicles within one listing is not permitted.

In addition to compliance with eBay listing policies, sellers must comply with the eBay Privacy Policy. This policy prohibits sellers from sharing the buyer’s contact information with other people, companies, and organisations. Sellers are also not permitted to use the buyer’s information for any purpose other than communicating with the buyer about the item, service, or property, unless the buyer has expressly permitted them to do so.

The Classified Ad listing category gives sellers a way to list items, services, or property for sale to generate multiple leads or potential buyers in specific categories. While this format does not enable buyers and sellers to complete transactions online through eBay, eBay’s policies continue to apply to maintain the trust and legitimacy of eBay’s marketplace.

Additionally, even though offers to buy or sell outside of eBay are not always made with the intent to defraud, there is always risk involved. Please be aware that transactions resulting from Classified Ad listings that are conducted outside of the eBay platform are not eligible for:
