Dating back to 1876, the Castelli company has been producing sportswear for well over a century. The first cycling garments were produced in the 1910s and by 1977 the company was launching innovative Lycra shorts. The Castelli brand now offers performance cycling kit for men, women and children.
Choosing a cycling jacket
Castelli produces a variety of cycling jackets suitable for conditions ranging from cold winter weather to warm summer days. For the chilliest of conditions, the Meccanico Puffy jacket is quilted with synthetic down and features fleece lining inserts. It also has an adjustable hood and water-repellent finish.
In milder weather look for cycling jackets which feature ventilation and offer moisture wicking capabilities. For days when the weather is changeable, the Velo jacket folds into a pocket to make it easily portable. Made from water repellent and windproof fabric, the jacket fits close to the body and features reflective tabs on the back.
Which type of top?
Castelli tops range from lightweight sleeveless vests to the classic cycling jersey. The Perfetto vest comes in six colours and a range of sizes. It is windproof and water-repellent as well as lightweight and breathable. The vest features a full-length zip with wind flap, two rear pockets and a reflective trim.
Available in six sizes and a choice of colours, the Gabba 3 jersey is designed to be water repellent, windproof, warm and breathable. It incorporates a silicone grip at the waist to stop the jersey from riding up and three rear pockets with drain holes.
Shorts and trousers
A pair of cycling shorts or trousers can complete a performance outfit while offering a host of additional features. Castelli's Volo shorts are made with stretch fabric and a comfort-enhancing seat pad. They are lightweight and breathable with reflective detailing on the back.
When the weather takes a turn for the worst, Castelli's Tempesta FM Race Pant features waterproof taped seams, windproofing and breathability. The trousers have an internal elastic waist which includes a draw cord for adjustability.
Featuring a special removal system, these trousers can be taken off while remaining in the saddle. This means there is no need for the wearer to unclip their feet from the pedals. They also have pre-shaped knees and reflective detailing.
